CHIROPRACTIC 101: – by Dr. Rick Lee

Welcome to our Holiday Edition. It has been quite a year of change and welcoming back some staff members to our clinic. Our move is complete and now it is just hanging the degrees and pictures on the wall and still finding places for all of those boxes!

Judy Cardinali joined our staff in April, after previously working with me when I was downstairs in the mall with the Bridlewood Dental Centre. Fiona Caldwell, RMT visits us once a month on Saturdays from Buffalo sharing massage duties with Des Fan, RMT. Dr. Eric is still here on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and in September, he has started in another multidisciplinary clinic in Newmarket on MWFs.

In the last week of November, I started daily FaceBook and LinkedIn (abridged version) posts called “30 DAYS TO 2020”. My intention was to set some better habits into my Lifestyle, rather than just go on autopilot into the New Year. I am looking to become leaner, exercise more regularly, eat better, sleep better and have more energy as I go through the holidays. Each day I am sharing what I am doing and why I use that in my life. I am by no means a saint regarding lifestyle and I have always said that 80% of what you do will dictate your health. So, there is flexibility, but what I have been finding is that I have been staying closer to these habits and use strategies to navigate my way with the various social gatherings and holiday eating that ensues. Feel free to “friend me” on FB or LinkedIn to follow along. I will also post these in a summary later in our website and parts of our newsletter.

We have started our Health & Lifestyle workshops again, now that we have settled in. We had a great turnout and it gave us an opportunity on how to configure our reception area for the presentation. Remember these are part of your care, so feel free to join us again as a review and a great reminder that many of the challenges that we experience are due to physical, chemical or mental, emotional life stressors and are a health problem and not just a neck or back problem.

We start to control the pain, but then wouldn’t you want to address the root cause to prevent it from recurring? Your lifestyle and your thoughts create the stress on your body & mind and if it is beyond your ability to adapt, then it will show up in various ways and yes even as neck or back pain, but isn’t it really a heath problem? We will try to remove the “noise” within the body, but you ultimately want to make changes in your life toward better health and we can help to guide you in that direction.

Our next workshop will be in January, please ask us to reserve a seat for you and any guests that you would like to bring.

THE GIFT OF HEALTH for THE GIFT OF HELP

During the holiday season, we offer an opportunity to have your family or friends benefit from a health assessment by our clinic. There is no cost to you for this. Just sign the letter to say that it is from you and give this to someone that you care about.

This makes a great gift for the difficult to buy or to someone in which you believe could benefit from a lifestyle change for their health.

In lieu of fees ($90 consultation and evaluation), they are asked to make a donation of $25 to support Julliette’s Place, which is a Family Shelter that we have supported for over 15 years. They will be issued a tax receipt from Juliette’s Place, so it is a win-win.

Massage Gift Certificates are also a great gift idea, please ask Larissa or Judy about them!

30 DAYS TO 2020 – MEDITATION – by Dr. Rick Lee

More and more studies have shown the many benefits of meditation from reducing stress to reducing memory loss. I had worked in a chronic pain management clinic that used cranio-electro stimulation equipment to entrain the brain into a meditative state as a therapy that helped to reduce pain at the source.

I had a great discussion last week with a friend, who does healing meditation and various martial arts over the past 30 years. He explained that we have a lot of incoherence in our conscious brain due to the automatic thoughts that we have to an experience or situation. This outer layer needed to be disrupted to be able to create new patterns of thought and bring coherence and the best way to quiet the mind was through meditation. His meditation healing practices are way beyond mine and I am only a novice in using this as a way to quiet my mind.

Another friend who practices meditation regularly said to think of your mind as an old computer with all of the excess dated data, corrupt files and slow speed. Unlike your brain, the computer can be replaced, so he uses meditation to cleanse the mind and allow it to take on new things and thoughts.

A couple of years ago, I had attended a mindfulness day retreat with my wife put on by some good friends. We did various forms of meditation and for me I generally fell asleep during the practices. I did find that I was much more relaxed and had a really deep uninterrupted sleep for the first time in awhile that evening.

Over the past month, I have been using a guided meditation from You Tube for 10-15 minutes to help me quiet my mind. There are many ways to meditate and sometimes it can be a quiet place for a few minutes. Choose one that suits your purpose and schedule.

A healthy mind is a healthy body and they are intrinsically linked, so as much as we take care to what we feed our bodies, remember what you are feeding your mind.

Here is a great beginner’s look at different types of meditation:

DETOX & WEIGHT CONTROL PROGRAM BEGINS JANUARY 13TH, 2020

The New Year has people looking for solutions and starting off on the right path.

To make changes we must start from the inside-out. Of course, it is difficult to try to eat properly all of the time or we wouldn’t have this nation-wide problem, but you know my mantra: “What are you doing 80-90% of the time? Because this is what will form your Health”.

This Detox and Weight Control program will help to kick-start that change. This is the chemical stress (nutrition and toxicity) that affects our bodies and minds. It takes 21 days to create a habit, so we have implemented a 4-week challenge with an accelerated aspect at the beginning (for those who are a little more disciplined and want faster results) and then a transition into the regular program for lifestyle.

I have been using this program for 13 years in my personal life and also for my clients. It has been an amazing adjunct with what I do as a Health Care Practitioner and we have seen some incredible health and physical transformations! We look forward to helping you achieve your own health goals with this program.

The cost for the program is only the cost of the products. I will be coaching you throughout the program and there is a 30-day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied.

Contact us and we will get you started on this program. Please call at 416-756-3833 or email me at ricklee@sympatico.ca and type DETOX in the subject line.

INSURANCE BENEFITS YEAR-END

As the calendar year comes to a close, your insurance benefits may renew in the New Year, however as in most cases there is no carry over and once they are gone, they are gone. They are part of your employee package to be used to keep you happier and healthier. Think of it as Health Reassurance that you can make as part of your lifestyle.

People may also want to check on their health and lifestyle through a Chiropractic evaluation, have a massage done to address poor office postures or get evaluated for orthotics to correct the kinetic chain from poor foot mechanics.

If you have any questions about your insurance, we can help to explain what they will or will not cover.
